Ruger's Follow-Through Knife

By: Dr. Jim & Mary Clary

Our primary hunting weapons have been Ruger Nr. 1s and Model 77s for years.  In fact, each of us have at least three in various calibers.  That pretty much says it all when it comes to our faith in Ruger's quality and reliability.  When we heard that Ruger was going to add a line of knives to their product line, we looked forward to seeing them at the 2016 SHOT Show.

We were not disappointed.  Ruger did not make the same mistake as other major firearms companies that ventured into the knife field by degrading their brand name with poor-quality blades.  Everyone knows who they are, so we don't have to mention them here.  Ruger demanded a quality line of knives designed by well-known bladesmiths.  As such, they partnered with CRKT who recommended Ken Steigerwalt, Bill Harsey, Robert Carter, Matthew Lerch, and Ryan Johnson.

These five experts designed a series of everyday carry, hunting, tactical, and self-preparedness knives that are worthy of the Ruger name.  And, as would be expected, CRKT made sure that each knife was well made with excellent steel.

We selected Matthew Lerch's Follow-Through for our first test and review.  This is a folder with a locking liner and blade flipper.  The Follow-Through is comfortable to carry, easy to use, and re-sharpens quickly when needed (which is not very often).  It is destined to become our "workhorse" knife around the place, to be used on leather harnesses, the polycord on alfalfa bales, and anything else that may arise around the "farm" that requires a good blade. It is definitely a keeper!
